On the last unit with the first graders, we worked on the properties of materials. Objects can be made of metal, plastic, paper, wood or fabric. These materials can be natural or manufactured. They can be hard or soft, smooth or rough, bendy or rigid, transparent or opaque or shiny or dull. If we bend, stretch, or squeeze them, some materials can change shape. Other objects change shape too when we apply heat or cold, and when they are exposed to water or air.
